Major General Julian Thompson CB OBE served in the Royal Marines for 34 years, in the Near, Middle and Far East and Europe and commanded land operations during the landings and opening engagements of the Falklands War. He also co-scripted and presented nine documentaries that formed part of the BBC’s coverage of the VE and VJ commemorations and co-presented the live BBC TV programme on the 60th anniversary of the Normandy Landings.

He is the author of The Imperial War Museum’s 1916, Experience and The Victory in Europe Experience, Ready for Anything: The Parachute Regiment at War, The War at Sea: The Royal Navy in the Second World War and The Imperial War Museum Book of War Behind Enemy Lines.
